ABOUT
Patrick Gavin is a marketing strategist, journalist and visual storyteller.
He is the director of “Nerd Prom: Inside Washington’s Wildest Week,” a feature-length documentary that exposed the biggest annual event in Washington, D.C.: The White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The movie was hailed by the late Larry King as “a very important and hysterical documentary” and Newsweek magazine called it “a telling, smart look at this orgy of partying and social insecurity.” It garnered press in such outlets as the New York Times, CNN, MSNBC, the Associated Press, the Guardian, National Review, Variety, the Washington Post, the Huffington Post, Page Six, National Public Radio, People magazine and Vanity Fair.
His production company, PWG Media Group, helps partners tell their stories in innovative and compelling ways and has produced videos for Laird Hamilton and Gabrielle Reece, Floyd Mayweather, the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, the Guardian, Tribune Media, the Washington Business Journal, the Forward, Mic, Gurney's Montauk, Tequila Don Julio, Revolution, USA Today, the Distilled Spirits Council, the American Historical Association, Antiquities Coalition and Veluxe. See examples of his work here.
Gavin covered Washington politics for over a decade, beginning with his work as a writer at the Brookings Institution, then as a columnist at the Washington Examiner, then a reporter at mediabistro.com’s FishbowlDC website and, most recently, at Politico, where he focused on the nexus between Hollywood and Washington. He’s interviewed such notables as Eliot Spitzer, Donald Rumsfeld, Larry King, Jack Abramoff, Donald Trump, Seth Meyers, Cory Booker, Jessica Alba, Lance Armstrong, Angelina Jolie, Martin O’Malley, Bill Maher, Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, Jimmy Kimmel, John Mayer, Cyndi Lauper, Herbie Hancock, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Willie Nelson, Tim Kaine, Michael Steele, Mary Matalin, Billy Corgan, Andrew Breitbart, Tim Gunn, Tom Brokaw, Jessie Ventura and Wyclef Jean.
Gavin has been a regular television contributor, including appearances on MSNBC's "Morning Joe,” “Reliable Sources,” "The Andrea Mitchell Show," "Headline News," "Dateline," "TODAY," "The O'Reilly Factor," C-SPAN, CBS's "The Early Show," "Extra," "Inside Edition," "Entertainment Tonight," "TMZ Live," "Jansing & Co.," "The Thomas Roberts Show," "Joy Behar: Say Anything!", "Weekend with Alex Witt" and "Anderson Live."
He was named by The Atlantic as one of “The 30 Washington Insiders You Should Follow on Twitter,” by Business Insider as one of its “Most Influential People in Media” and by The Wrap as one of the "25 Media Insiders to Follow Right Now." He served as a Young Scholar at the Aspen Institute.
